Otolaryngology
Sutter Physicians Alliance
Also referred to as ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists, otolaryngologists provide diagnosis and medical and/or surgical care of conditions related to the ears, nose, throat and related structures. According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), "Their special skills include diagnosing and managing diseases of the sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, and upper pharynx (mouth and throat), as well as structures of the neck and face. Otolaryngologists diagnose, treat, and manage specialty-specific disorders as well as many primary care problems in both children and adults."
After completing medical school, otolaryngologists train for an additional five years to become specialists. According to the AAO-HNS, "They may go on into subspecialty practice areas that include pediatric otolaryngology (children), otology/neurotology (ears, balance, and tinnitus), allergy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck, laryngology (throat), and rhinology (nose). Some otolaryngologists limit their practices to one of these seven areas."
Sutter Physician Alliance otolaryngologists are located throughout the Greater Sacramento region and provide specialty otolaryngology care as well as subspecialty care in particular areas of focus.
